The Institute of Physics Publishing (IOP) promotes and brings physicists together.

IOP Publishing provides access to a portfolio including journals, conference proceedings and books on physics, astronomy and astrophysics, materials science, environmental science, biosciences, computational science, engineering, environmental sciences, mathematics and education.

Over half of the publications are published in partnership with other learned societies and research organisations including the American Astronomical Society, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and Morgan & Claypool.





Monash staff and students can access the IOP resource via the Monash databases page or via Search.

With the options at the top of the IOP starting page you can explore:

Journals

At journal level, a journal impact factor is provided.

At article level, you can view ‘Article PDF’, number of ‘Total downloads’ and number of ‘Cited by’ articles (if applicable). Clicking on the ‘Article information’ link, you are also able to ‘Create citation alert’ and ‘Sign up for new issue notification’ (see also “My IOPscience” below).

Conference Series

The Conference Series provides a fast and comprehensive proceedings publication service. As a guideline, proceedings appear online typically 4 to 6 weeks after the papers are submitted to IOP. The three Series are Journal of Physics. Conference Series (JPCS) (2004 to present), IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) (2009 to present) and IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science (EES) (2008 to present).

Books

The book collections serve the needs of undergraduate students through to graduate research students and faculty members. There are currently four collections: IOP Concise Physics, IOP Expanding Physics, Physics World Discovery and AAS-IOP Astronomy (The American Astronomical Society).

IOP ebooks offer:

  • No DRM: IOP ebooks allow unlimited concurrent usage
  • E-reader compatibility: books and chapters published in html, pdf, ePub and Kindle formats.

Search IOPscience content

When searching via “Search IOPscience content” (IOPscience is an online service for journal content published by IOP Publishing), you will notice that the search results can be sorted by ‘Most recent’, ‘Oldest’ and Relevance. You can also Refine your search by ‘Date published’, ‘Journals’, ‘Author’s, ‘Publication type’ and ‘Open access’.

Article LookupThis feature helps you get access to an IOP publication electronically quickly if you have the reference details.

My IOPscience

To take advantage of the personalization features in My IOPscience such as setting up tables of contents alerts, creating citation alerts and the like, you will need to create a My IOPscience account first. It is a free registration.
