Online learning with Lynda.com

As a learning skills adviser, Aimee Turner uses Lynda.com (available to Monash students and staff) to help students and staff develop their digital literacy skills. The mission of the online learning platform is "To help you learn the skills you need to achieve your full potential."

The Lynda database includes over 1,000 tutorials on subjects ranging from business to animation, from education to IT, from design to marketing. Once you finish a tutorial, you can print a Certificate of Completion. Want to learn how to code using Javascript? There is a lesson for that. Want to know how to 3D print a scale model? There's a lesson for that. Want help figuring out how to edit your video? Yes, there's even a lesson for that. So many options can be overwhelming. So the first step is to determine what you need.

Based on the questions I get asked, here are a few key starting points.

The Lynda database can be particularly appealing to PhD students, who have to complete professional development hours, as most of the tutorials they access can be used to count towards those hours.

The Lynda.com database is available through Library Search, and the Databases A-Z. If you need further information or assistance using the database, contact Ask.monash or Faculty Team contact.
